Session Description
This session explores a Latina leadership board game titled El Rio de Dichos, designed to be facilitated in a workshop with debrief. This diversity project incorporates psychological development of leaders, development of social identities, and intercultural leadership. The game debrief proved useful for leadership development. El Rio de Dichos uses dichos, or Spanish idioms, to address how Latinas navigate professional settings. This game provides leadership educators and coaches with a unique and innovative tool to assist both aspiring Latina leaders and non-Latinas to understand the nuances and challenges bicultural underrepresented groups face in the workplace. The game explores different cultural dimensions, such as the cultural capital that assists Latina’s development into formal leadership positions and the various tensions that arise when negotiating multiple cultural elements in these settings. Trained facilitators guide gameplay and debriefing exercises that allow participants to explore multicultural leadership, with any identities, both from what is learned in the game and beyond.
