Session Description
One of the things that most group leaders worry about is: What do I do if someone in the group takes the group hostage? This can show up in a variety of different ways. For example
- What do I say if a participant gets angry at me or someone else in the group?
- How do I lead when there is an "over-sharer" in the group who is taking up a lot of space
- How can I support the person who has a million questions when everyone else in the group understands the material?
We can call all of these examples different versions of "Client Resistance", and in order to be dynamic and effective group coach, you must understand the human behavior behind these situations and how to navigate it.
In this interactive session, we will go deep to understand the nature of group dynamics as well as resistance and fear. We will then focus on the different resistance archetypes that come up in group work (The Victim, The Judge, The OverSharer, and more). Finally, Joanna will share techniques to respond to the individuals who experience resistance in a way that empowers them and everyone in the group.
